Tbilisi entrance halls in the Sololaki district

At one time, i lived in an Italian courtyard in old Tbilisi. I cannot say it was comfortable in the usual sense, but it was the real Tbilisi — without decorations or filters.

Laundry hanging across the yard. Neighbors dropping in without calling. Cats feeling like the rightful owners. The creak of old wooden stairs and stained glass through which the morning light paints the walls in soft colors. This is where the spirit of the city is felt.

Especially in Sololaki. When i lived in this district, i drove along Lado Asatiani Street every day and had no idea how much beauty was hidden behind unremarkable doors.

List of Top Entrance Halls in Sololaki

The House of Mikhail Kalantarov

Address: Lado Asatiani, 27
📍 Coordinates: 41.689699, 44.799877

This is one of the most famous and impressive entrances in Tbilisi. The house belonged to Mikhail Kalantarov, a wealthy merchant and philanthropist of the late 19th century. The main gem of the building is the so-called Moorish entrance. When you step inside, it feels as if you are in Andalusia rather than Tbilisi. Pointed arches, horseshoe vaults, slender columns, ceramic tiles, and mosaics — every detail is carefully thought out. You cannot truly understand this place through photos; you must see it with your own eyes.

The House with Stained Glass on Betlemi

Address: Betlemi, 6
📍 Coordinates: 41.689813, 44.805779

The history of this house remains a mystery. I tried to find information about it, but almost nothing survives. However, the most important thing remains — the stained glass. It fills the space with color, creating the atmosphere of an old European city. After the 2002 earthquake, the building was partially damaged, and you can feel its fragility when you enter. But the stained glass survived. Today, it is a favorite spot for photographers and researchers of Tbilisi.

Former Hotel London — Where Tchaikovsky Stayed

Address: Atoneli, 31
📍 Coordinates: 41.700163, 44.801866

This building is located near the Dry Bridge. In the 19th century, it housed the Hotel London. It is known that Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky stayed here during his visit to Tiflis. The main hall is decorated with paintings; the central composition was created by an Italian artist, while other fragments belong to the Georgian artist G. Agapishvili. The lace-like staircase is especially impressive.

Today, the building needs restoration, but work has already begun to restore not only this house but the entire district. This gives hope that the beauty of old Tbilisi will be preserved.

We have spent many years studying the architecture of Tbilisi and include the most beautiful entrances in our signature routes. These are places you cannot find on your own.

These are far from all the treasures of old Tiflis. Many more entrances amaze with their beauty, though it is a pity most need restoration. The entrances of Sololaki are not just hallways; they are portals to the past. They tell the city's story through paintings, stained glass, stairs, and details. Most tourists walk past, never suspecting what hides behind these doors. That is why they remain some of the most atmospheric places in Tbilisi.
