Abandoned sanatoriums in Tskhaltubo: a guide to Soviet ruins

Tskhaltubo is a paradise for fans of urban exploration and ruins. I am presenting my own list of abandoned sanatoriums. For your convenience, I am sharing the exact coordinates to make them easier for you to find. You won't find this kind of information in regular guidebooks.

Sanatorium "Metallurg"

Coordinates: 42.325216, 42.593714

A park was once laid out around it, which has now turned into an impenetrable forest. There are very beautiful gates leading into the sanatorium. The territory is partially maintained; refugees from Abkhazia live here.

Sanatorium "Iveria"

Coordinates: 42.330016, 42.604636

The building was originally part of the "Shakhtyor" sanatorium. On May 1, 1967, the sanatorium was separated from "Shakhtyor." In the 1990s, refugees from Abkhazia lived there. Now the building is empty.

Sanatorium "Shakhtyor"

Coordinates: 42.328847, 42.602780

It is quite well-preserved because refugees were not housed in it. Its scale and grandeur are striking even today — marble facades, ceiling moldings, columns, and balconies with a view of paradise.

Guesthouse "Savane"

Coordinates: 42.324579, 42.606591

The 150-seat guesthouse was opened on May 1, 1975, as a guesthouse-clinic. Architects: A. Intskirveli, P. Potskhishvili. The location looks like something out of a movie about a long-ago apocalypse.

Radon Baths in Tskhaltubo

Coordinates: 42.323342, 42.597433

An abandoned cylindrical building with four entrances, many windows, and a round hole in the center of the roof. These were former bathhouses. Abandoned for a very long time, relief drawings on the partitions have been preserved inside. The structure consists of four sectors with 28 baths in each. They are not guarded and are located in the city park near the functioning bath complex.
