The abandoned Kalandadze family dacha in Georgia

The History of the House

The abandoned dacha of Kalandadze is one of the most atmospheric forgotten corners of Georgia. Ancient walls, moss on stone, and decaying doors create a special feeling: time seems to stand still here. I first saw this place while walking around the outskirts of Batumi, and i was struck by how many stories these ruins hide.

The photographs show the abandoned dacha of the Kalandadze family. The owners, as written in the internet space, were Darispana and Euphrosyne Kalandadze — a very wealthy merchant family of the 19th century. The dacha is located in a small Gurian village. When i took these shots in may, i was deeply charmed and simultaneously disappointed.

In such places, i always experience mixed feelings — looking at empty rooms, dilapidated stairs, and the remains of interiors, the imagination begins to paint how it used to be here.

The building has the status of cultural heritage. We recently learned that restoration has begun and is in full swing. Hurrah! Inside the building, fireplaces and original murals in each room have been preserved.

As local villagers reported, the materials for the fireplaces were ordered from Venice, and expensive furniture was brought from St. Petersburg. I am sure that soon we will be able to see this beauty after the restoration.

UPD: In 2025, the dacha of the Kalandadze family was restored. This historic building in Georgia is worth visiting during a FAHU Travel signature tour.
