Katskhi Pillar: the spiritual lighthouse of Georgia
Recently, our Fahutravel team set off for the Imereti region — a historical and picturesque area of Georgia, known for its unique landscapes, ancient shrines, and cultural treasures.
We were drawn to one of the most unusual attractions of the region — the Katskhi Pillar, which rises above the area, symbolizing the steadfastness of faith and spirit.

Katskhi Pillar in Imereti
A massive stone pillar about the height of a 15-story building. And most surprisingly, a tiny church sits at the very top, and a monk lives there.
When you stand nearby, it seems impossible to believe that one could even climb up there.
But there is a narrow iron ladder that he uses to ascend and descend.
Monks lived here many centuries ago to be in total solitude, away from people and closer to God.
The pillar is located near Chiatura, in Imereti, and it is one of those places that is impossible to forget. It looks simultaneously strange, beautiful, and a bit surreal — as if it were intentionally placed in the middle of the valley.
We were amazed that in the 21st century, there is a place where one can touch the asceticism and spirituality of the past so closely. We did not climb to the top, but we enjoyed the majestic view from below, imagining what it is like to observe the world from such a height.
